Mindset. Can it really be the secret ingredient to winning or losing?
You can watch the interview of the Mindset Coach of Ash Barty, now Wimbledon Champion.
Ben Crowe was on Australia’s ABC News and a lot of what he said resonated with what we share at some of our talks, our coaching sessions and even our workshops.
Keep in mind that when Ben was interviewed, it was still about two matches away from Ash Barty’s eventual win. And win we knew she would after listening to Ben. We have placed the interview link in comments. Here’s the summary and inputs. Three things for a winning mindset, in our books are:
🏆 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Ben shares that there are two expectations that “kill” performances – that of outcomes and that of others. This is so true not only in sports but at work and even with our marriages. The only expectation you can have is of YOURSELF.
– 𝘞𝘏𝘖 𝘥𝘰 I 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦?
– 𝘏𝘖𝘞 𝘥𝘰 I 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥?
– 𝘞𝘏𝘈𝘛 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴, 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘥𝘰 I 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭?
So forget about what other people are saying and thinking – it’s their stuff – not yours.
🏆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗔𝗡’𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹: Once you accept there are things you can’t control, you then need to let those go. When your mind focuses on what you cannot control is what sets us on the path of anxiety and stress. Focus only on that you CAN control. Your strengths, Your skills, You.
This may not be as easy as you think and does take practice. For alot of us we are on “auto-pilot” and we do let that mind of ours run riot with the thoughts we have. And often we are pre-occupied with things we really cannot control! So get conscious of those thoughts. Do a check-in at least twice a day. Ask yourself:
– 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘮 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨? 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦? 𝘕𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦….𝘸𝘩𝘺?
– 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵?
– 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘪 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮? 𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘦𝘴 – 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘛𝘛𝘋, 𝘐𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘵 – j𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘨𝘰.
🏆 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗚: “What you DO is not all that defines you – it is not the only thing about you. If you only need to do something or be something before you can be someone, you will never be content or fulfilled”. So focus on developing your SELF WORTH and from this point, state to yourself and to the world what your dreams and goals are.
Then go all out to reach and attain them. Without being tied to the final OUTCOME. Just like Ash Barty did. Congrats Ash!!
