Let’s talk about Feedback, do you LIKE receiving feedback? In general, what we’ve been told is that feedback is not always easy to receive
And yet, Feedback is crucial for skill development, as it guides us on what to improve, maintain, or change.
While feedback from coaches is valuable in sports or art, sharpening communication and presentation skills often takes longer due to the reluctance to give and receive feedback.
This leads to repeating mistakes unknowingly.
In our workshops, we employ a Feedback Loop to enhance learning. It includes:
-Self-reflection
-Trainer Feedback
-Peer Feedback
And often, it is the feedback that individual participants find most useful in making a change.
How about establishing this feedback loop at work? Agree with your colleagues, and even your Manager to give each other feedback on your Communication and Presentation Skills.
Remember feedback given should be:
1. Timely – as soon as possible after your presentation / communication
2. Delivered with Respect and
3. Specific – state observations, not judgements and offer alternative suggestions.
By embracing feedback, you can progress to the next phase of your skill development journey.
