Last week it was a privilege to attend my first #Metaverse workshop – what an experience! Many thoughts to share
But first a shoutout to the team at Civil Service College for this initiative. Grace Lee, Yong Qin TEOH, Ho Kang Ye were the ones anchoring the session. I am sure many more were involved. Thank you so much for organising the session.
Thank you also to Wan Wei, Soh and Samuel Teo for their insightful sharing. Learnt so much from both of you.
And here are my top 3 thoughts at the end of it:
?1️⃣ The Metaverse IS coming…. but not as soon as you think ⏳
What exists today is quite basic as compared to what the dream is. And there are some big issues to be worked through before the Metaverse becomes a normal part of our lives. Uninterrupted electrical supply, wifi and ownership of the data being a few of them.
And at the same time, it is ?INEVITABLE?.
Remember your initial struggles with the internet? – slow speeds, crappy connectivity and general messiness. That was just the beginning. Same for the Metaverse – it is just the beginning…
?2️⃣ Yes, AI will be taking our jobs
I personally learnt how people are already working on creating AI trainers in the Metaverse!
They will be able to teach, correct and assess skills.
And come to think of it, it is absolutely possible – the technology is not there yet but the idea is.
? What that means for Roshini Ganesan and me is to start asking 2 questions –
? Q1 – In what aspects could the Metaverse and AI HELP me in our work? That is likely to be the first stage.
? Q2 – What aspects can AI NOT take over? That’s where we need to build our expertise
I don’t have answers right at the moment … would love to hear your thoughts on these questions
? 3️⃣ Start NOW!?
For those of us in the workforce who were born in the last century, it feels awkward and uncomfortable ?
For kids who have grown up playing Minecraft and Roblox, it is normal. So we need to start NOW.
I absolutely hated the15 mins of being in the session. But over the next hour or so it was already better.
And I need to try out VR goggles sometime! Much more willing to than I was before.
By 2025, 25% of us will be spending an hour in the Metaverse everyday. Maybe we can start small now – 15 mins per week?
If you have ideas on how else I could try out things, what I could read – please share. I would be very grateful.
