We all face failure and heartache at some point in our lives. When things don’t go the way that we had planned or desired. When people respond to us in a way that frustrates or angers or disappoints us. And yet, some people bounce back from failure and some don’t. Some people bounce back faster than others. Think about someone that you think is Successful – have they never failed? They did! And they bounced back. What is their super-power?
Optimism
Or simply – hope for the future. Hope that things will get better. Hope that their actions make a difference. Not rose-coloured glasses optimism. Realistic optimism – which includes action. Realistic optimism gives us the ability to keep taking action. To Change – ourselves, our behaviours or our circumstances so we can bounce back. To learn to be more realistically optimistic, I need to be willing to look at how I normally respond. what’s my instant response when something happens? what do I usually think? Because when I know what the pattern is, of how I usually think, then I can change that. If my initial response is pessimistic, that’s OK. The first step is to become aware of our thinking – without judgement. Then you choose, you can reset your thoughts – what is a better feeling thought so that you can take action? And the better you get at resetting, the better you get at bouncing back and bouncing back faster.
